what are jabber IDs and why does feministsf.net care

Jabber is an open source IM (instant messaging) protocol, in contrast to the proprietary systems created by AOL, MSN, and Yahoo!. Feministsf.net cares because we like to have meetings in all kinds of different forums, including electronic chat sessions, and we would like to not support the Evil Patriarchal Empire when we hold such meetings.

If you would like a Jabber ID, contact webmistress at feministsf.org and in the subject of the message say "jabber ID request". In the body, please mention your connection to feminist sf / fandom. While we think everyone should switch to jabber, we can't host everyone here.
